‘We’re best known for our prints, which are on natural 100% French Flax linen,’ tell Society of Wanderers founder Briony Delves, who takes cues from the 60s/70s. ‘We really mix up and layer beds, so we’re also well known for the contrasting colour combinations in our collections.’

Releasing new designs with the seasons, each range is influenced by an inspiring location or home, and once produced, Briony returns to this place to photograph the resulting collection. Society of Wanderers’ Winter 19 collection was inspired by the London home of stylist Marianne Cotterill, Mapesbury Road House. ‘Colour wise there are some deeper tones than we’d usually use, such as forest green and an earthy tobacco stripe,’ details Briony. ‘To fit the eclectic feel of the home, I chose to use four different prints: a really retro 60s style, a classic 50s floral, a scattered garden floral and a timeless leopard print.’

The brand is based in Torquay, on Victoria’s Surf Coast. From its one-woman-show beginnings, the label has grown into a tight-knit team, with Briony’s husband running the warehouse, while she heads up the design studio and retails space. Their flax linen is imported from France and manufacturing takes place in China. ‘Everyone on our team is involved in designing the prints and fabrics – they share their opinions as I wander around experimenting with all the combinations!’ adds Briony.

Next, Briony is keen to integrate more sustainable processes into her business, and better packaging for the products, with the aim of making everything as environmentally friendly as possible. ‘We started using compostable shipping bags last year and had great feedback,’ she tells. She’s also looking to spring, when they’ll unveil a very Australian collection. We can’t wait to see where her wanderlust takes the brand next!
